Shells Sound Game

This is a super simple game that is a cinch to put together!  Start by collecting shells (or pick up a bag at your local craft or dollar store). Underneath each shell, write a different letter blend. Then flip them back over. After turning a shell, the player must correctly say the letter blend in order to keep the shell. The person with the most shells at the end of the game WINS!

Shadow Art

Try shadow art as a way to practice the /sh/ blend! Bring a piece of paper, a pencil, and an object outside on a sunny day. Position the object so the shadow hits the paper, and then let your little one trace away!

Sheep Snack

Try this sheep snack when practicing the /sh/ blend! With only a few ingredients, this snack is easy to put together and a fun reward after all those learning activities!

Chip Can Sorting Game

This game is super simple to make but highly engaging! Using some recycled chip cans, we made quick labels from construction paper with targeted blends. Then we printed multiple pictures of words that start with each of the target blends. For /ch/, we included a cheetah, chips, and the letters /ch/. The last step was to mix up the pictures and let the kids sort them into the right cans!

Letter Blend Chalk

Using chalk is the perfect way to practice the /ch/ sound! Little ones can practice writing (and saying) the /ch/ sound and letters—or just draw pictures! You can’t go wrong with this one. No matter what you do, make sure to have fun!

Cheetah Food Craft

This cheetah food craft is an adorable way to practice the /ch/ sound and give your little one a yummy treat! First, spread cream cheese on a bagel (we used pumpkin-flavored cream cheese-yum!). Then add vanilla wafers for the ears, an almond for the nose, candy eyes, and chocolate chips for the spots, mouth, and more! Throw on some pretzel whiskers, and you’re ready to eat!

Stick Blends

Stick blends are not only a great excuse to get outdoors, they also provide a great educational activity! Start by collecting a pile of sticks. Then bend or break the sticks into smaller pieces to create letters. See how many different blends (and letter blend sounds) you and your child can create!

Starfish Snack

Turn an ordinary sandwich into a learning practice! By cutting a star shape out of your child’s sandwich, you can encourage your little one to practice the /st/ sound while adding a little fun to their lunch!

Spider Web Blends

This spider web is a perfect way to actively practice letter blends. First, build a web on a doorway using masking tape or painters tape. Then, either crumple paper into balls or gather cotton balls and write a letter blend on each one. Give your child the balls to throw at the web and see how many they can get to stick! Don’t forget to encourage them to say the letter blends as they throw!

Sparkle Letter Blends

This spider snack is a fun treat that your little one can make and enjoy! Using a brownie bite, add pretzel legs and M&Ms for the eyes, and it’s ready to enjoy!

Snake Beaded Craft

These snakes are so fun and easy to make! Show your little ones how to string beads on a pipe cleaner with a “head” on one side (which will also help keep the beads in place). Once the beading is completed, hot glue some eyes, add a pipe cleaner tongue, and bingo! A fun creature for practicing the /sn/ sound!  

Snail Snack

This yummy snail snack is a delicious treat!  All you need are cinnamon rolls, toothpicks, and marshmallows to make your own snails at home!

Got some old magazines or newspapers lying around? Try this easy /sc/ scavenger hunt! Give your child magazines and a pair of scissors, and let them find the letters s and c. Then they can glue their s’s and c’s together and practice the /sc/ blend!

Messy Canvas Art

This /sc/ messy canvas art is such a fun way to practice the /sc/ sound! Start by using tape to create the letters s and c on a canvas. Then give your child paint and encourage them to fill the entire canvas with color (remember, it’s ok to go over the tape!). Once the paint dries, peel off the tape to reveal your /sc/ blend!  

Scorpion Snack

Try this yummy scorpion snack! First, add jelly to bread or toast. Then use kitchen scissors to cut the bread/toast into a scorpion shape—give it a long tail, pinchers, and some legs.  Add candy eyeballs, and you’ve got yourself a great snack for your little one!

Roll a Letter Blend Game

This game is a snap to throw together and provides lots of fun and learning!  First, we added stickers with various letter blends to the sides of a cube. Then we drew  a record sheet, using the corresponding letter blends. Each time a player rolls a blend, they have to say the sound and then make a check on the chart! This is a fun game to play alone or with a partner!

Pretty Flower Blends

These pretty flowers are a quick and easy craft to help reinforce the /pr/ sound.  All it takes is some cut-up paper, an outline of a blend or flower, and glue. Your little ones can fill the outline with lots of color and then enjoy their beautiful art!

Praying Mantis Snack

This praying mantis snack is a clever way to get your children to eat more veggies!  Using celery, peanut butter, and grape eyes, this snack requires some adult cutting and slicing, but will sure be enjoyed by your little ones!

Try this adorable grizzly bear as a snack for your little one!  Spread Nutella on a slice of bread or toast, add raisin eyes and banana ears, and your bear will be ready to eat!

We found this fun frog letter jump game at the dollar store—it makes the perfect quick and engaging way to practice the /fr/ letter blend and review previously learned blends!  On each frog, we wrote a letter blend in permanent marker. As your child tries to jump each frog into the “pond,” encourage them to say the letter blend, too!

Hungry Crocodile Game

Try this super easy crocodile game to practice letter blends like the /cr/ sound! Using an empty container (green pod dish detergent containers work especially well!), glue eyes and teeth onto the lid. Then cut out cardstock “fish,” and write a different letter blend on each one. Let your child feed this hungry crocodile the fish as you encourage them to say each letter blend sound!

Crayon Rubbings

These crayon rubbings are another great way to incorporate art into letter blend practice. Start by prepping the letter blend rubbings in advance—use a glue gun to write each letter blend on the back of a piece of cardstock. Once the glue dries, give your child a crayon and a piece of paper. Set the letter blend underneath the paper, and have your child “rub” the paper with the crayon.  Watch their amazement as the letter blend starts to “appear!” This is a great way to practice the /cr/ sound!

Crab Food Craft

Watermelon and chocolate chips are all it takes to make this adorable crab snack! Cut eyes, claws, legs, and a body out of watermelon, and you’ve got a tasty snack for your little one!

Brown Bag Scavenger Hunt

Who can resist a scavenger hunt? Give your child a brown paper bag and head off together on a /br/ scavenger hunt around the house or outside. On our hunt, we found bread, a brush, a bracelet, a bridge, broccoli, the color brown, and some /br/ letters!  Tag us if you do this activity so we can see all the /br/ things you and your little ones find!

Make this fun brachiosaurus craft, inspired by the ABC See, Hear, Do 2 book! Then share your amazing creations with us!  

Brown Bear Fork Painting

This adorable brown bear fork painting is so easy to make! Give your child a fork to dip in brown paint. He can use the fork to make a bear head and ears. Add cut paper to complete the ears, some crazy eyes, and a mouth, and you’ve got your very own brown bear, perfect for the /br/ letter blend!  

Brachiosaurus Snack

Make a brachiosaurus snack for your little ones to enjoy! We used lots of fruit—watermelon, bananas, grapes, and some cantaloupe. We added a chocolate chip for the eye, and YUM!

Slap the Blends Game

This is a low-prep but highly engaging game! Start by cutting multiple handprints out of cardstock—trace your little one’s hands for added engagement. Then add your targeted letter blends. We focused on bl, cl, and sl. After sticking the letter blend hands to a wall or laying them flat on a table, let your child “slap” the letters! As they slap each hand, encourage them to say the letter blend they hit. Or call out a letter blend and see if they can find and “slap” the corresponding hand!

Slime Craft

Kids love slime—probably more than their parents! But for the /sl/ blend, slime makes the perfect craft! There are tons of ways to make slime (just ask Google). We opted for the easiest recipe of all—a slime kit! But no matter what you choose, slime is sure to be a fun way to practice the /sl/ blend!  

Sloth Snack

Ever tried making a sloth snack? We sure hadn’t, and we quickly realized it wasn’t as easy as we’d hoped! Feel free to use what we finally came up with, or figure out your own sloth snack! We’d love to see your creations! For ours, we spread Nutella on a little more than half a cut bagel, and we spread cream cheese on the rest. Then we sprinkled chocolate sprinkles on the Nutella. We added little smudges of peanut butter where the eyes would go, and lastly, we added chocolate chips for the eyes, nose, and smile! Voila!

Clothespin Bottle Drop

This clothespin bottle drop game couldn’t be easier to put together! Start by saving an old bottle (we used a plastic orange juice container) and cleaning it out. Then grab a bunch of clothespins and write a targeted letter blend on each - we chose /cl/ and /bl/ to start. Finally, let your child drop each clothespin into the bottle, but not before saying the sound of the letter blend on the pin! You can also make it an interactive game by taking turns with your child as you each pick clothespins and see how many you can get correct!  

ABC See, Hear, Do 2 Clam Craft

Make this cool clam craft, inspired by the ABC See, Hear, Do 2 book! And don’t forget to tag or DM us your adorable creations!

Perler Bead Blends

If you haven’t tried perler beads, you’re missing out! They’re perfect for practicing the /cl/ sound!  Start by creating a C and an L with the same color on the peg board (we helped our little ones with this part). Then let your child fill in the rest of the peg board with a variety of perler beads!  Once their creation is complete, adults can lay a piece of wax paper over the completed pegboard and iron the beads so they fuse together! Once melted, fused, and cooled, let your little ones enjoy their new creation as they practice the /cl/ blend!  

Clam Snack

This yummy treat is cute and fun, and it goes perfectly with the clam from our ABC See, Hear, Do 2 book! Frosting, vanilla wafers, and candy eyes are the only ingredients you need to make this super simple and delicious snack!

Letter Blend /bl/ Crafts and Activities

Blooming Flowers

This blooming flower activity is the perfect way to get your kiddos moving and practice the /bl/ blend! Begin by making a set of paper flowers (with or without your children). We cut petals from cardstock and used hot glue to bind them together. Then we glued a skewer to the back of each flower. Then “plant” your flowers outside for your children to find. As they collect each bloom, encourage them to practice the /bl/ sound!  

ABC See, Hear, Do 2 Bluebird Craft

Make this awesome bluebird craft, inspired by the ABC See, Hear, Do 2 book!

Blow Paint Volcano

Try a blow paint volcano when practicing the /bl/ blend! First, rip or cut brown construction paper for the base of the volcano. Use a glue stick to glue each piece to a piece of white paper. Then squirt red and yellow paint just above the volcano. Finally, give your child a straw to blow the paint up the paper. It will look like lava exploding!

Blue Bird Snack

This yummy treat is a cinch to make and goes perfectly with our blue bird from our ABC See, Hear, Do 2 book!  Pretzels, cream cheese with blue food coloring, sliced cheese, raisins, and a mini-bagel are all you need to create this adorable snack your child will love!
